After dancing salsa for 10 years and teaching it for 7 years, I have discovered 3 things that everyone must know about hobby salsa dance shoes.

When considering the right Latin dance shoes, it is very important that you ask yourself  "What type of salsa shoes do I need?"  Do you want to practice salsa as a hobby or is your aim to compete or being in a show?  For sure, if you compete or fancy being in a show, you will want your shoes to match your outfits.  "Do I want to be cute or comfortable or cute and comfortable on the dance floor?"  Because when you are in a dance Club, you have so much fun dancing you'll want to stay as longer as possible on the dance floor.  And if you don't have a nice and good quality pair of dance shoes, you will regret it even if you are a salsa beginner.

Latin shoes will always depend on your needs.  Where will I dance?  In a dance Club, taking salsa lessons, dancing in indoor/outdoor salsa events.  The real question is on what type of floor you'll dance on.  So, different dance shoes for different places.  At the beginning, you could manage with only one nice and practical pair of shoes.

Let me show you 3 characteristics you need to look for a nice quality dancing shoes.

1. First of all, when you attend salsa classes, you need to be comfortable in your shoes. You'll probably stand up for more than an hour to learn all the steps shown. Starting with the best salsa dance shoes is a good decision because it will adjust itself to your foot; it will be soft, flexible and more stable.  If you want to enjoy salsa dancing, this is the best suggestion you can get.


2. You need salsa shoes that allow you to turn without gripping the floor.  I would choose a shoe that straps on to your ankle.  My best salsa dance shoes have a strap that goes around the middle of the foot.  It helps hold your foot in place and prevents slipping and blistering.  Leather will adjust to your foot better than satin.  Salsa shoes usually have suede sole that allows you to slide or grip the floor.  Furthermore, check for a hooked buckle.  You'll only have to bring your straps around your foot and slide them into the hook.
3. When you dance, you will turn and move really fast.  So you need to be stable on your dancing shoes.  The best way to start is a slight heel like 21/2".  It's hight enough to look good and you'll be more stable.  When you gain confidence and improve your skills, you may buy a higher heel.
